Great comment from my 4-year-old nephew.
I spent this past weekend with my sister and her family. My sister told me a pretty funny story which I think you all will appreciate.

My sister and her family are friends with a Lesbian couple who are having a baby through in-vitro fertilization. The pregnancy is progressing normally, and they're getting to the point where it is starting to show, so my sister decided to tell my 4-year-old nephew that their friends are going to have a baby.

My nephew's response: "That baby is really lucky, because he's going to have two mommies."

1. Awwwww, the innocence of youth ...
let's hope all children will grow up to think like that.

2. Two Daddies
My partner and I have adopted 3 children. Our 5 year old's preschool classmates frequently tell him that they wish they had two daddies. When one of us shows up to pick him up, they yell to him "One of your dad's is here".
There is hope for the future if these children aren't corrupted by the bigots of this world.

3. Just found out my niece is pregnant
Same story; two mommies. I'm thrilled for her, but seem to be the only one in the family! She's in her mid-20s and has been in a lesbian relationship for awhile. I personally think it's terrific--my niece's partner has helped her get her life together, she finished school and got a job as a surgical assistant, she stopped drinking and smoking...it's all good as far as I can tell. When I talked to her over the weekend I told her how happy I am for her and her partner. She was giddy talking about it!

I love that comment from your nephew, and plan to use it myself. Thanks for sharing.

Peace,

RV

9. That story reminds me of my little niece who
was playing dolls with her friend. My sister-in-law said the girls were arguing about WHO would be the Mommy and who would be the Daddy. Both girls wanted to be the Mommy.

Finally, my niece said, "Wait! We can BOTH be the Mommies because that's okay. Sarah at school has two Mommies."

The other little girl agreed and then they went back to playing instead of arguing about who would be the Mommy.

11. Damn straight
Our son has two mommies and a daddy. He is the biological son of my wife and husband but weirdly, he looks a bit like me. We even share a similar birthmark on our backs. He's quite happy with his unusual family. The only trauma that I can see for him is that it is harder to get away with things because there are more adult eyes watching!

Great story. I love the fact that kids frequently have more than one mom or more than one dad, and the fact that families come together in different ways. For example, our good friends are a lesbian couple, and my friend B had a child via natural childbirth. My sister has a daughter AND a stepson. My hubby and I adopted, and so our family came together in a unique way. Kids just don't worry about those kind of things anymore, and it's great!

14. That's really sweet...
My partner's son has two mommies now as well as his daddy, and he says pretty much the same thing. I'm so glad that the world has changed this much since I was a child.

18. Thanks for sharing Skinner.
Your nephew is very clever. :) And a thank you to his parents for helping to raise such an open minded child.

Wished more adults had the same attitude. Good luck to the lesbian couple with their upcoming family!
