'Reformed' gays demand a voice in America's schools
Angered by what they see as the promotion of homosexuality in schools, thousands of American parents are banding together to demand that their children be taught that it is possible to stop being gay.

Organisations such as Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays and Gays (PFOX), Jews Offering New Alternatives to Homosexuality (Jonah) and Inqueery are trying to ensure that their view is aired alongside gay rights messages.

A high school in New Hampshire allowed an "ex-gay" activist to address pupils on Civil Rights Day last year.

In Colorado, education officials are pondering whether to hand out a pamphlet to teachers suggesting that "conversion therapy" - a combination of prayer and counselling - can reform homosexual tendencies.

11. Religion is nothing more than a "lifestyle choice."
If these nutters get a voice in public schools to say that "homosexuality is a choice that you can chose not to be a part of", I will demand an equal voice to say that "religion in general, and narrow-minded, literalist fundamentalism in particular, is a choice that you can chose not to be a part of."

That sounds fair, don't it? :hi:

3. That's insane.
Who in their right mind would marry someone who went through one of these programs?

If a prospective partner told me he was bisexual or had dated/relationships with/was attracted to men as well as women, fine. (I'm female.)

If he used to be gay but says he got better through prayer and therapy, I'd run. It's a disaster waiting to happen.

5. I have a hard time believing someone to be "ex-gay". Perhaps
they are "ex-bi" and have decided to stop their same sex relationships.

8. More hatred and bigotry being touted as "alternative views"

Let's start our own program. The Ex-Bigot Program for people who need to learn how to open their minds and stop being so hateful and oppressive. We could have chapters in schools and even Boot Camps for the more incorrigible teens and adults.

Firstly, gay rights activists are advocating EQUAL rights for homosexuals.

Secondly, every medical organization in America has voiced its opinions on gays, and all of them agree that there is nothing wrong with being gay, straight, or something in between.

But Exodus, as well as the other organizations that use a pseudo-scientific approach, has not been endorsed by any medical body. Ergo, it doesn't belong in the schools. Neither Exodus, nor PFOX, nor any of the others should be able present its side as supported by 'medical facts' unless it actually HAS medical facts.

When something is presented to students in schools, they take it as FACT. The ex-gay thing is a viewpoint, not medical fact.

Not to mention that it violates the APA's ethical code.

10. OK, as long as we use the "evolution" label ...
This textbook discusses reformed gays, a controversial theory some scientists present as a scientific explanation for changing sexual orientation.

No one was present when life first appeared on earth. Therefore, any statement about changing life's sexual orientaion should be considered as theory, not fact.

13. And just like evolution...
they'll ignore all evidence that says that they're wrong. And those 'ex-gays' will still be living in denial.
