Now is the time for LGBT voters to decide what they want from a President
In less than a year we will be in a full fledged Presidential campaign. By that time we should have several announced candidates. We need to know what we want from them so we can let them know.

My list. One, they have to say to all voters the same thing on our issues. No playing games. If they won't tell straights about us when they are campaigning they surely won't when governing.

Two, ENDA and Hate Crimes (including transgendered) are non negotiable. No candidate who refuses to advocate these laws on a national basis is acceptable. And transgendered need to be included in both. We can't even begin to advocate for the other rights until we have those laws.

Three, at a bare minimum a candidate must: oppose the FMA in all cases (even if some court some time says we count as part of the 14th amendment and thus should be permitted federal marriage), support an immediate ability of same sex couples to immigrate, and support some form of civil unions permitting us federal rights.

Those would be my minimum standard.

1. I have one requirement, but it is absolute
The person I vote for president must openly and unambiguously support my right to full and equal civil rights, including my right to full, legal marriage. Any candidate who does not meet this one requirement will not get my vote.

2. I agree with you, TechBear, but I am afraid that not many candidates...
on a national level will be getting our vote this fall. Local candidates certainly will. So be it.

3. At this point, we must pressure them for full equality.
they may not end up supporting it, but if they don't feel the pressure NOW, before things start winding up, then they won't after the primary is over.

And also, if they do NOT end up supporting full equality, I'd be mighty unhappy, but I'd have to hear their argument and see how I feel.

and if I DON'T like their argument against full equality (i.e., they are bullshitting), then who knows, I may end up throwing my vote away, that's my choice.

If they DO support full equality, then, happy days are here again.
