Hundreds of Thousands Celebrate Gay Pride - San Francisco (photos)
Edited on Sun Jun-25-06 09:35 PM by 94114_San_Francisco
It was a perfect day this year - no fog until late in the afternoon! After a morning of volunteering at the gates (collecting donations) my friends and I danced all afternoon - we had a great time. How was your day? More photos at the link below: :party: :hi: :party:

San Francisco Mayor, Gavin Newsome.

Hundreds of Thousands Celebrate Gay Pride

<snip>

(06-25) 13:21 PDT SAN FRANCISCO -- Hundreds of thousands of people gathered from across the Bay Area and the nation to soak up the exuberance of San Francisco's annual gay pride celebration, which culminated today with a parade up Market Street from the Embarcadero to Civic Center.

Members of the GSA Network, which unites school-based gay-straight alliances around the Bay Area, carried signs that ranged from the whimsical to the political, including: "If you don't want a gay marriage, don't get one," "Viva la Revolucion Homosexual!" and "My sexual orientation? Horizontal, usually."

"I work with queer youth, and for a lot of them this is the first time they've been out in public, being cheered on," said Cristin Brew, 32, of Fairfax, who coordinates youth programs for Spectrum in Marin County. "We're saturated with messages in this society, overt and subtle, that we're not OK. So to do something that is overt is really important to combat the messages these kids get every day, especially at school."

As the parade got under way, a cool morning gave way to a perfect day and thousands of people poured out of BART and MUNI cars and lined Market Street. Some climbed streetlight poles for a better view.

1. Damn that man is a hunk
too bad he is straight. Great pics. I really miss living in an area where politicians actually march in those parades. In NC only very, very local ones do. No big city mayors. No governors. No Senators. No Congresspeople. We do have the kids though and the rest of the fun stuff too. Not till October though.

6. There should be a contest in Time or something. Sexiest mayor.
Our mayor, Bloomberg, will come in close to last (on any number of scales)

7. My mayor might be in a tie with yours.
Richard Daley is a good friend of the gay community here, but he's no Gavin Newsom. :-)

13. he is adorable but...
how successful would he be outside the bay area? Challenge Feinstein? I don't think it would be successful (I am no fan of hers BTW)
