Ark. Governor Calls For Ban On Gay Fostering
http://www.365gay.com/Newscon06/06/063006arkfoster.htm

Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said Friday he hopes the Legislature considers reimposing a ban on gay foster parents, struck down a day earlier by the state Supreme Court.

''I'm very disappointed that the court seems more interested in what's good for gay couples than what's good for children needing foster care,'' Huckabee said through his spokeswoman Alice Stewart.

The state Supreme Court on Thursday upheld a lower court decision that threw out a ban on gays and lesbians serving as foster parents. (story) Four people sued after the policy was put in effect in 1999. The state Child Welfare Board dropped the policy after losing a court fight in 2004.

Arkansas Health and Human Services spokeswoman Julie Munsell said the four who successfully challenged the policy have not applied to be foster parents.

1. Apparently being raised by straight parents didn't work out
so well for Guv Huckabee - turned him into a bigot.

So let's see - getting passed around from foster home to foster home is better than finding two loving parents to take of you (a bit of hyperbole, but you get the picture).

2. Since the governor's little "covenant marriage" hasn't done too well
I think people in Arkansas should take up a petition demanding the legislature, since it believes it is so morally superior, REQUIRE all those in a covenant marriage to register as foster parents and prepare for immediate placements. Since they claim this is about protecting the children, it's about time the people forced these blowhards to put their homes where their loud bigot mouths are.

In the meantime, I'd hope that Arkansas gays would consider filing a lawsuit against the state demanding relief exemptions from taxes for both public schools and child welfare facilities. There isn't any reason for gays to be footing the bill to handle the mistakes of heterosupremacists.
