More Anti-Gay Amendments Coming
http://www.365gay.com/newscon05/01/011005amend.htm

all red states--Kansas, Alabama, Tennessee, Virginia, South Dakota

and in a special twist:

In the issue is when to put a proposed amendment to that state's voters. Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano is daring the state legislature to call a special election this year to let voters decide whether to approve a constitutional ban on gay marriage rather than wait for the November 2006 election. (story)

the more I read about her, the more I like her!

1. I'd like to see them TRY this in a blue state.
It would wipe the smirks off of the wingnut faces.

What we need is to get our (blue) state legislatures to pass civil unions/marriage. I'm surprised Illinois hasn't done this yet, but we are making progress (i.e. passing the nondiscrimination bill).

2. After the passage of AB 205 in Cal...
I think that we are pretty much up to speed as to the domestic partnership benefits. I'm proud as a PFLAG-er 'auntie.' Still have the federal benefits problem, though.

And my ignorant state assemblyman, Haynes, plans to try to introduce a bad bill in Cal - hope it never makes it out of committee, or doesn't become one of those obnoxious referendums/propositions. I've e-mailed, and I'm sure with him that did one heck of a lot of good .

3. Actually, they ARE trying it in a blue state
In Massachusetts. And quisling John Kerry endorsed the idea of revoking all gay people's marriages and replacing them with "civil unions." Fortunately, gays and their allies managed to bump off several anti-gay Democrats in the primaries and replace them with gay-friendly candidates, so it's now questionable whether the amendment will survive a second vote in the state Assembly.

Still, it doesn't help when your "allies" are busy undermining you. . .
