2. yes, without question
I think any rights issues which affect any group of people being dehumanized, discriminated against are a civil rights issue.

4. Yes, and they are also human rights
from Wikipedia:

Civil rights are the protections and privileges of personal power given to all citizens by law. Civil rights are distinguished from "human rights" or "natural rights". Civil rights are rights that are bestowed by nations on those within their territorial boundaries, while natural or human rights are rights that many scholars claim that individuals have by nature of being born.

6. Of course. How could anyone with half a brain question it?
I've made it very clear: I no longer respect discriminatory or bigoted "genuinely held beliefs."

These beliefs are invalid. Period.

WHY WOULD YOU ASK THIS QUESTION? What? You think we're asking for 'special rights'? :nuke:

8. Umm... duh?
Denying equal rights to one group of people is a civil rights issue. Kinda a no-brainer.

14. Did he say that they weren't?
Is this an assumption? If he said such a thing, I'd really like to know about it.

16. If you look at his campaign website under Issue - Civil Rights
Not a word about GLBT rights, only racial and gender inequality (mostly racial)

http://www.barackobama.com/issues/civilrights/

We are relegated to the "People" section...

http://pride.barackobama.com/page/content/lgbthome

Obama does have Faith as both an issue, and a People section...

17. Good job.
You're right. The layout of his website is a big turn off. Calling LGBT rights civil rights would piss off older African-Americans. On the other hand, I'm not sure what the phrase means if it only means the historic struggle for Black rights in mid-century America. It could've easily been called "Racial Equality" which would've been more specific.

I'm not sure I can vote for him. I don't believe for one second that he supports LGBT rights. I think he speaks in code to his fundamentalist base all the time.

I don't think Obama will stop the war. I think he'll accelerate faith-based funding--much of which will go to anti-gay crap. I don't think he'll be able to keep the Republicans under control.

Frankly, I think America is becoming a disaster on all fronts.

19. His LGBT page only mentions repealing DADT.
He has a few other issues buried in a 1-page PDF. It appears he wants to be "on the record" (sort of) supporting LGBT, but he doesn't want too many people to know about it. This doesn't give me much confidence in him.

Otherwise he'd lose the independent and pseudo-republican vote to McCain if they go up against each other in the general election. Likewise, he depends on those votes to beat Hillary in the first place. GLBT issues are not (perhaps unfortunately, perhaps not) a key issue in this election. It's just good politics in this current political climate for him to divert focus towards other things like the war and the economy so that he can get elected in the first place.

15. Of course I do.
I think Gay Rights, Women's Rights, and Equal Rights regardless of race/ethinicity are all inherently linked.

20. They are to LGBTs
And to people who care about LGBTs.

Only people who have all of their civil rights would say they are not.
