What will be the next state to grant full gay marriage ?
Any ideas ?
Bill Richardson of New Mexico said he would sign the bill if it were presented to him.
So what can we do to get this going ? I don't live there.

1. New Jersey
We're the best state on gay and TG rights. After NJ, I think NY will be next.

5. Yes NJ is definitely next. The whole CU thing has been a disaster.
The same committee that voted for the CU is already gearing up to tell folks that civil unions are unequal and unworkable so I've heard.

4. Illinois
Maybe not next but should be soon. Polls consistently show 2/3 of Illinois voters support rights for same-sex couples.

6. Massachusetts
Massachusetts offers gay marriage so they are the front runner in
rights for the LGBT community, are they not ?

7. New Jersey, New York or Vermont
Vermont may actually be the closest to doing it since they're already holding hearings on the subject.

8. Somewhere in New England
Possibly Vermont, since they were the "pioneers" with civil unions in 2000 and they know that the sky hasn't fallen and Western civilization is still intact. My second choice is Rhode Island, one of the bluest of the blue states, which technically already recognizes marriages performed in Massachusetts, but for some reason they are reluctant to fully endorse marriage equality in their state. My dream state would be NY... a big, big state that would impact lots of states close to it. I fear that marriage equality will never make it south to NC in my lifetime. Sigh......

9. No state can offer full same-gender marriage
as long as there is no federal recognition. It's fine to be married in MA, but when you have to file separate income taxes, and plan for individual social security, etc, etc...it's far from full recognition.

We still have a long way to go. And that's why this election is SO important.
