Parents Confront Memphis School Board About Outed Gay Students

Memphis, TN - At Monday night's Memphis School Board meeting, a small but vocal group of parents and community members gathered in the back of the auditorium waiting to speak their minds.

"I'm disgusted," Memphis parent Natasha Burnett told Eyewitness News Everywhere. "I'm disgusted by it."

Burnett is referring to the controversy at Hollis F. Price Middle College High School in South Memphis. District leaders are investigating allegations that HFP Principal Daphne Beasley outed two of her gay students.

"Firing her may be too harsh," says Burnett, "but something needs to be done about that. No faculty member should be able to out a student like that."

She has no right to do that to small children. What happens if their parents aren't supportive? What if they want their children to seek "counciling"? What now? It's a crime.

and/or beat the shit out of them and make their lives miserable to try and 'make' them straight?

Neither one of those is all that uncommon these days.
