Avoiding food 'may beat jet lag'
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/7414437.stm

Adjusting meal times can help travellers recover from jet lag, a study suggests.

Harvard University researchers believe the brain has a second "feeding clock" which keeps track of meal-times, rather than daytime, after studying mice.

When food is scarce, the feeding clock overrides the master clock, keeping animals awake until they find food....

Time for a bedsnack?

1. I'm flying from NZ to SF next Saturday ...
I don't know if I can do a 12 hour flight without eating, but I'm willing to give it a shot ...

I had good luck with these on the way here:

3. No more jet lag for me after transatlantic flights when I simply stay up
the night before the flight. Since I am not travelling for business I don't need to be alert to perform upon arrival.

I just dose a bit in the plane, force myself to stay awake until an early bedtime in my destination, and wake up fine the next morning.

It used to take me almost a week sometimes to get over jet lag!

5. I do it both ways.
Flying east is the hardest, and took the longest to get over the jetlag. It remains the most difficult with staying up the night before as arrival is in the morning - making it a challenge not to take a nap during the day. But if I can stay awake until about 8pm, I have a long night's sleep and wake up pretty much without jetlag the next morning.
