Seeds, nuts that are safe for arteries?
CSPI.. nader's group, tho he is gone from it now... dr. Michael Jacobsen heads it..

had a nice list of the very few safe nuts... no sat fat to clog one's arteries.

what are the safe seeds and nuts? I am short on time to study his site for the data.

I think walnuts? Chestnuts?

are these safe?
.. sunflower
.. pumpkin
.. almonds
.. soynuts

2. Palm oils
They are used in everything from soaps and baby lotions to fried foods and and bakery products. They are even used in most dairy products, including cheeses and milk. They are a horrible allergenic because they are so hard to discover, being in so many food items.

6. Not only that, but watch that salt
and make sure the nuts have been dry roasted, not fried in trans fats.

on top overall, also walnuts. A lot of this has to do with the amount of monosaturated fats, which are better.

Soynuts---there's a suggested limit on the amount of soy because of possible estrogenic effects. From what I've seen, 1/8 to 1/4 cup would be the range. I forget the exact amount, but I think we're looking at about 25 gms of soy protein per day....and that cup amount puts you in that range....

7. nuts UNSAFE, mostly, last i read years ago

Hi all,
thanks for the great replies!

I recall from CSPI years ago, that .. i think it was a good Bonnie Lieberman article...

most nuts were unsafe for arteries by the science of that ten years old time.

back then, i recall they listed only about two nuts as safe. Sat fat was, IIRC, the bad agent to watch out for.

Has sat fat been deemed OK recently? i seem to have heard that on TV.

=====================================

WARNING: just my reasoning... if nuts are not roasted or cooked, watch out. If the packers/shellers were third world from a nation with poorly funded inspection agencies, or even US, since we now inspect so poorly with the budget cuts.. those folks may well have e coli or such on their fingers. Just like the raw salads bagged an in stores, all raw food is suspect these days.

QUESTIONS : sat fat ok now?

most nuts ok now, according to CSPI?

seeds.. anyone know which are ok?

what are the artery-cloggers according to current science?

thanks a whole whole lot, i am trying to widen my diet

10. Saturated fat
is no longer thought to be the ultimate evil that it was 10 years ago. Now most consider it bad -- as it is high density and adds a lot of calories, but not really any worse than eating the same amount of calories in another food.

Trans-fats are now very evil, and mono-saturated & poly-saturated are generally thought to be good.

11. Check for high mono-unsaturated fats
Almonds are said to be best, e.g., http://www.askdrsears.com/html/4/T043600.asp
