At what was then still called the Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston. I was in mission analysis.

Later, we all got giant copies of one of the Earthrise pictures taken by the crew. My wife and I framed it, and it hangs in our living room, above the couch. (Added on edit: The one I have is the one Ptah links to in his/her post. Except that mine is printed backward, for reasons not worth going into here. It's still beautiful and inspiring.)

Wow, those were optimistic times! But Nixon had already won the election by then, and doom was on its way.

I've always loved the Apollo program. :yourock: DavidD.

And that Earthrise picture was reality altering for me as it was for a lot of people. But I was 6 years old at the time. I saw how small and fragile we all really are.

When I think of the lame job the GOPs have done with the space program I don't know whether to scream or weep.
Had they been in charge of Apollo Halliburton would have delivered a box of bottle rockets in 1972 instead of the historic results.
Please note that these guys have lost two shuttle orbiters on their watch. And they continue to gamble with the lives of the Astronaut Corps by keeping the ancient Columbia class shuttles in service long after they should have been retired.
For a new Space Age, vote straight democratic.

16. I used to think we'd all see that in person, one day.

Now, I tend to think only those lucky or vigorous enough to escape what we are doing on Earth will see it.

For all the progress we've made in the last 20-30 years, it doesn't seem we've gotten very far.
