New Car
(pardon this might not be the correct place for this question)

Need a new car.. I drive highway a lot of miles.

2008 models not so great. Looks like 2009 are the models that are making the big MPG change.
Please correct and inform me if I m wrong.
Not rich (Honda fuel Cell is out of the question)
VW Disel in 2009 with 55 mpg looks good.

Please tell me if there are any better models or products out there the current gas price is killing me.

Sorry, I cannot help....but we just purchased a ford focus back in Dec. because we got an excellent price on a '07 model.

I'm sure there are folks here who can help you, however.

Good luck.

4. we like it very much, but its mileage could be better
It's averaging 28-29mpg now. It's very comfortable and it drive extremely well for a car of its size. It was first style in Europe, ya know.

Change the oil? Don't know yet, as it came w/free oil changes fr. the dealership. Guess my guys will find out next yr. (They don't mop floors and I don't change oil. ;) )

(It's late here on the eastcoast, so I'll say goodnight.)

Welcome to DU, btw.

6. I bought a Toyota Yaris for my daily commute in Feb
I drive 23 miles one way to work across town and the car does just what I need it to do. Get me to work. I am getting 37-38 mpg in a mix of city and highway driving. I do what I can to time the lights along the last leg, coast a bit down hill where I can and such (driving in at 4:30am allows me to be less concerned about traffic). It seems like a good little car, but everyone's needs and tastes differ.

Good Luck!

10. Happy to be of any help I can
If you have any questions that I can answer about the Yaris, let me know. I think it's a great little car and after doing my homework, the cost vs benefit came in better than anything else on the market including a hybrid. As I mentioned everyone's needs differ so certainly look around and do your homework as well, but this car deserves a look.

Best of Luck to You!

8. Honda hybrid here
Actual real life mileage, mixed highway and city driving, is regularly 42 mpg driving the way I drive. Watching the little bar that gives an approximation of how your mileage is going boosted it to over 50 mpg but I could only do that for one tank and the car is dependable.

9. I second the Yaris...
that would be my choice if I got a new car. Up to and possibly over 40mpg highway.

Several people I know got one, and for $13,000 you get a car that give you mileage good enough to make you wonder why you would spend $10,000 more for a hybrid. And, btw, good enough to make you wonder why you would pay 30% more for diesel.

11. Probably because the honda hybrid is solid.
I expect to be driving it 10 year or more from now.

13. Honda Civic Hybrid
I get 55 mpg, mainly farm road and highway driving. I am an old lady and drive as though I'm riding a bike. I used to get 28 mpg on my Toyota pick up truck. So, a lot is my driving, but still, it is a great great car. It is solid and has a lot of ump and is a few thousand less than Prius. I think that gas will stay at $4 and perhaps go to $5/gal and this is why I vote for either the Civic or the Yaris.
