Tired of Heifer Intl recommendations?

We hear about it, and we see it here on DU. "What's a good charity?" and inevitably good ole Heifer comes up. Donate an animal (or pitch in to buy one) to an area that really doesn't need "start up capital" for animal agriculture.

But, what's a good alternative? Wanting to assist people that are starving is a fantastic humanitarian thing to support, but Heifer? No. Well, I think we've got a couple good alternatives...

Okay, granted, they aren't US charities, so nobody would get the tax write off. But for the $20 or $50 donor, it's perfect because they may well not be itemizing deductions anyway.

2. Food Not Bombs. Though people won't get a tax break with them either.

Though I think there is a way to give to FNB through another group and get the writeoff.
