Help!!!! I'm having a senior moment
What are the cookies made with coconut and eggwhites called. It's driving me crazy! I know the recipe calls for egg whites, coconut, sweetened condensed milk....

They are very common....

It's on the tip of my tongue....

Damn............

5. technically, those aren't
real mararoons. I've never attempted to make the real ones. The recipes are miles long with incredibly difficult instructions. The hard part isn't mixing the dough, it's getting them off the pan without sticking. I've got one cookbook for classic french cooking that gives like 2 pages of instructions & still points out they may stick.

PS I really like chocolate macaroons.

6. Real Macaroons are dryer and less sweet
They are terrific but the sticky sweet ones are the ones my family cries for. They are super easy to make.

If you ever do try the real ones again...use parchement or one of those silpat pads. I use the silpat for all my cookies now and never have a problem with sticking any more.

7. I've had real macaroons,
just never made them. The cookbook I mentioned uses silpat for a lot of her recipes, but not for macaroons. I don't know why, but I have to assume that she knows what she's talking about.

I made the face chocolate/coconut ones for a party once. They flew off the plate. That recipe wasn't as sweet as usual. Just fabulously chocolatey & coconuty.

2. Macaroons
Easy but disgustingly sweet macaroons that kids love:

Whip 4 room temperature egg whites and a pinch of salt to stiff peaks.

In another bowl, mix 1 can sweetened condensed milk with 1 tsp vanilla and 14 oz. coconut. Fold in the egg whites.

Drop spoonsful onto parchment paper (no substitute, trust me) and bake in a slow oven until light brown.
