Hurricane glassware
I found a set of 12 of this kind of hurricane glasses in my mother's things.

I don't care about their value but just don't know how I can use them. Some are shown being used for some sort of mixed drinks. Not exactly our thing. But they're in such good shape that I thought maybe I'd keep them if I found a use.

Any ideas?

1. They are used for hurricanes!
Hurricanes are very sweet and strong alcoholic beverages served in New Orleans (almost exclusively to tourists). Some bars give you the glass for the price of your drink.

You could use them for any tall, iced beverage - like ice tea, or fruity drinks.

They are generally very deep, so it would be difficult to actually eat something out of them with a fork or spoon.

2. Doh! I shoulda had a V-8
Maybe I can have my V-8 in these. :D

The ones I have might be too delicate to eat ice cream or pudding from even with an iced tea spoon. But I think we can use them for juice in the morning.

The "Made in Hungary" labels are still on them so I guess my folks got them as a gift and never used them.

I just found some Virgin Hurricane recipes and they look pretty good. The regular Hurricanes sound like a kick in the pants.

Thanks again!

3. Are they glass or lead crystal?
If they're lead crystal, you don't want to put anything acidic in them................

5. They don't have a light crystal type ping to them
It's more like a deeper sounding ring.

Hurricane mixed drinks contain acidic juices. It would be odd if this specialty glass would be made with a dangerous material. I sure hope not since I already had some orange juice! ++

4. How about using them for ice cream desserts like parfaits

pudding or other layered confections? Or you could use them for vases. Or put small collections in them, like small seashells, colored glass, rocks, buttons etc. Very pretty glassware.

6. I could use one for flowers - that would look nice!
I'd like to try pudding using a long spoon. Heck, if one breaks I would still have many more left. I just wouldn't pour anything hot in them since they're fairly thin glass.

Thanks! :hi:
