Firefox, Smiley Xtra 4 and DU

I good do with a bit of help here. I can't figure out how to use Smiley Xtra 4 on DU. I know how to use it on another board I frequent (rabble.ca), but what I do there doesn't work here. Help!

1. As far as I know, the only way to insert pics & animated gifs

into posts on DU is to use a URL reference to the pic/gif. You cannot directly insert graphics to posts on this board (to the best of my knowledge.)

2. I downloaded the smily toolbar.

When I tried to use one of these smilies in this post, I got a message that the database needed to be updated. After updating, it seems to work OK.

3. Position your cursor, select the smiley you want, then click "insert image

location" (On my Linux Firefox, that is the 5th selection on the Smiley Xtra 4 menu bar).

or you could double click the smiley and then manually remove the img /img pair

4. I just leave the - tags on the post.

The board software strips them off and discards start bracket - end brackets pairs.

5. That would work. I brought it up because I've seen them surrounding

graphics, but now that I think about it, I believe those were all in signature lines, where the image import functions differently.
