Okay, I've got a cd burner that I need to install (questions and photo)
the instructions are pretty straight up on how to put this in and i don't see a problem there, they recommend making the new writer the master, so I'll need to reposition the jumpers.
The quetion I have on that is, after I've changed the jumpers, do I need to move the new burmer to the top and the existing cd drive below and change the ide cable so that the primary plug goes to the new one and the secondary to the old, or do I just need to make the new drive the master and the old the slave, and leave the cable alone except to plug it in?

Also and this is where the photo come in.

Right below the existing drive, it looks like a knockout panel, how do I make a hole where the drive needs to go?
There is a seam that runs around the face of the tower, but, I'm afraid that if I pry this off I won't be able to get it back on right.

1. You could use cable select
Set the jumpers on both drives to cable select. There should be a small diagram on the drive or the manual. If you are using an IDE cable with 3 connectors, plug one end into the motherboard, the grey connector into the drive you wish to use as slave, the other into the master.

No real need to move the drives up or down, but you may find you have to, to make the cables fit, depending on which you choose for master/slave and availability of power leads.

You will need to take both sides off the computer box to screw in the new drive. While open you will be able to poke or prise out the face-plate. Slide the new drive in from the front.

2. Just rejumper the drives
and knock out the little metal piece on the bay, if there is one. I would use the lowest bay, so I could get disks in and out of the lower drive with the upper drive door open, like when copying disks.

I'm not going to tackle this for a few days, but that sounds much better.
