Adobe Distiller - Is it me or is it really this complicated to reduce PDFs
I've been told that Adobe Distiller is much more effective in reducing a PDF in size, but I just can't figure out how to use it? Is there a simple way to do this?

1. I Haven't Used It In Quite...
some time, but IIRC Distiller creates a virtual printer that you print documents to. The output of which is a .PDF file. I remember also being confounded at first.

2. CutePDF - totally free but not open source. Use as a print driver.
No watermarks, etc.

Totally free - you can continue using the same applications you currently use, but I'll bet a 'no-prize' to the first one to suggest you use OpenOffice, etc.

BTW: distiller is designed for multi-user enviornments, so that you'll have one computer doing the 'processing' etc. - Really doesn't make sense for individuals...

3. But I already have Adobe Acrobat Professional 7.0
It makes good PDFs, but I wanted to reduce them further in size for easier e-mail and web posting. So I was told that Distiller would reduce them further in size without loss of quality.

4. Distiller is somewhat complex
but its still the best one I know of for many people. Many (Most?) of the free or cheaper ones suffer with complex documents, specific formatting, security features / digital signatures, etc.

The only one I've found to be comparable is Gview and its companion software, which makes Distiller easy by comparison.
