A belated thank you.
Hi all,

I haven't had the chance to thank all the fine people here who offered me kindness during the final days of my cat's life. Everyone's support has made this horrible ordeal much easier to deal with.

It has only been a week since Calvin cat left. I'm better emotionally (I was a TOTAL wreck!) but I still get misty and miss him dearly. My surviving cat Crow, is coping as best he can. The day after, he whipped around the chair Cal sat in to bug him - he always harassed him like that. You should have seen the look of surprise and then sadness on his cat face when he saw that Cal wasn't there. He kind of sulked and slept a lot first few days after. It has been an interesting transition and it's still hard not to look over at the foot of the bed to see if he's lying there. All in good time.

Thank you everyone! :-)

1. Make sure you give special care to Crow...
Not only for the obvious reason, but because it is not uncommon for the death of a cat have a deep effect on the health of a close sibling. A couple of times in my life, after one cat in our household died, a second one followed within six months. (Ironically, while in the first case the second cat was a dear friend of the first, in the second case, it was the first cat's most bitter rival -- but who was nonetheless devastated by having his "enemy" gone.) :-(

2. Yes show lots of attention to crow.
I hope you find comfort in your sadness. You gave Calvin and good home. I'm sure he was very happy while he could stay here.

3. sometimes, writing to your baby each night before you go to bed
helps. I have a running diary on this computer that I write to my Tippy everyday and I started it in March when he died. It helped me tremendously and keeps my baby in my heart in a better way than without it. Take care and hugs, honey.
