Big toy for the cats for Christmas
Edited on Fri Dec-16-05 08:51 PM by superconnected

This is what I bought my cats for Christmas. It was $99 and it about 5' tall. I wanted this one for months. I didn't order from the company listed. I picked a pic from another site as I'm not happy with the site I ordered it from.

I've been waiting for it for over a week and just found out today that they didn't ship till yesterday and don't expect it to get to me til dec 21st

I'm actually considering getting the cats some little toys too, for christmas. And maybe a special food treat. I don't know what though.

Now tell me I'm not whacked, planning christmas for my cats first and not yet thinking about humans...

1. Whacked? Not at all.
Cats are family. That looks like an excellent gift, even if it's slow to arrive. They will love it.

I wish I could spoll my cats even more, and remodel my house like this:

2. I know I'm going to end up doing that someday.
I love it when people do catwalks and design their homes for them.

11. I think that is where Whiskerville got their remodeling ideas...
I know the founder has the Cat's House book. Here are pics of the Kitty Palace at Whiskerville:

Here's mine:

I actually bought this for me. If I give them some way to entertain themselves at night perhaps I can get some sleep!

9. I ordered it from Foster & Smith
When I got it there were no instructions for assembly. I asked my brother to help me put it together. It went together fine. I'm still pissed they didn't send instructions. Pad Thai loves to sleep up in the top of it. They're having a blast with it.

10. I think you and Demnan both got very tall ones.
See I'm new to them so I didn't see anyone elses.

Now I'm thinking I went too short on their toy.

This gives me an excuse to order another one in a few months for down stairs.

The truth is I never saw one of these before a few months ago when I traced a link on this site. Otherwise I think I would have gone for taller. I went for what looked the most stable and safe. They're probably all safe.

12. I got another one especially for Lily that isn't too tall
I bought it about 2 years ago. It has steps on it for geriatric kitties to climb.

14. Report back on cat toy - arrived. Sorry no pics.
Edited on Thu Dec-22-05 04:02 PM by superconnected
The big toy arrived last night and a friend and I put it together. Itas very very easy. the tubes are actually plastic with rope glued around them, so it's sturdy but a lot lighter than I expected. Most of the toy went together by simply screwing pieces together with a wood base for each floor between them. The little house was in the box assembled and just gets screwed on.

It looks exactly like the picture and surprised me that it is tall enough. I don't think they need taller.

They attacked and pulled the hanging toy off right away so I put it on with ribbon I had and it lasted most of the night. This morning I found it on the floor. They really kept playing with it rough last night. Everytime I looked at it, a cat was attacking it.

The rope is also popular and I constantly had cats in the house and on the top two tiers.

Now for the bad part - ALL of the cats wanted to be on the top. They fought, hissed, sulked, you name it, over not getting to be the one sitting in the top seat. 3 total ended up landing the top last night - sasha, blackie and then mischief. Nilla and Lucy really sulked about not getting to the top. Nilla did hog the rope and hang out on the bottom though when he couldn't roughhouse his sister off the top.

Oh, lots of cats getting mad and leaving the room too. I have too many cats to tantalize them with a toy like that when they ALL want to play with it and all want the top.

I fell asleep on my bed with my cats constantly waking me up while they were playing/fighting on the toy.

I should have taken pictures but I was too tired. I did learn that I really need another toy.

Somewhere in there, all the cats got on the tree except the 18yo(got ticked when I tried to put her on it) and the one with a broken leg- claire(crybaby who never cries now). This morning, it was still popular.

This is where I ordered the first one from http://www.acecatfurniture.com/7HCatTrees.html ,
but didn't want to post it because of their shipping terms. Now that it turned out fine, I'm willing to post what I'm looking at. I'm thinking 1 more will do.

That's the one I'm considering. I don't know if I want to spend so much though.

15. Bug on a Post

Bug loves his tree,
and knows how to use it.

To get down, Bug sometimes just runs
down the tree full speed,

And sometimes he does this!

Maggie joined our family last month.
She likes the tree too. The tree
is a regular stop on their
never ending game of Kitty Tag.

Maggie still needs a little "help"
to get down from the top. This is how
she lets us know she is stuck.

17. How are you liking this one, Superconnected?
I guess more important, how do the cats like it? Is it sturdy? BTW, I thought it was great that the cats came first. I think it was a fine idea!

I finally bought one for my guys (they have a short one now with two seats a great sisel scratching post, but, they are bored with it) -- am planning on placing this new one next to the shorter one so they can have a sort of "play ground".

This is the one I bought. It looks a lot like yours, but, it is somewhat taller I think. Am hoping that it is sturdy:

22. It will surpise you with being sturdy enough for the cats.
Edited on Fri Jan-13-06 08:25 PM by superconnected
I think your cats will love it. My cats really fought over the top for the first few days. Now it's their staple for always lounging on it and sleeping at night.

I gotta brag, I just got a ferral kitten on Saturday - real ferral that's totally wild and was caught by someone who got quite torn up doing it. It hides behind the pillars of the cat toy and rushes out and steals food from a plate I put out for it. I can't wait till it calms down enough and trusts me to come out and actually climb the tree. I think it is at night. I woke up once and thought I saw it on there.

I plan on getting pics of the kitten - if I can, this weekend, along with the cat toy. It's hard to photograph a fast wild animal that's constantly hiding, even though it is in my apt.

I also have the ferrals mother who tamed right down - clealry must have been a house cat. She The momma hides under the bed. Apparently she only had one kitten as the person who caught her kitten lives in my apt complex and was feeding the momma with her baby tagging along with her for several weeks, till he caught the baby and I went back and helped him catch the momma. The momma fought him for her kitten, then was staying right where the baby got taken from and wouldn't move. We picked her up, put her in a cat carrier and brought her to my place.

Hey Regankcin - the other momma cat(who had ferral kittens outside my door)is letting me pet her now. I named her Gracie and she runs to me when I get out of my car everynight when I get home. She's still skittish though so I'm proceeding slowly. Letting me pet her 1 stroke now before she backs off, started last weekend. I can't wait to get these ferral moms fixed.

Do you adopt out the feral cats that come your way? You have so many cats, I was wondering if you are a foster mother for some.

18. My babies loved their Christmas toys
Lily enjoyed looking down on her annoying young brothers from the tree:

Pad Thai just found it was a way cool place to sleep:

Charley dug the little cat puzzle with all the toys in it:

So all our cats had a great time for Christmas!

21. is charley mostly indoor now? I'm asking because you put a bell on him.
I love that Pad Thai sleeping photo. my cats play-fight and sleep on the pillars and one really big overweight cat I'm fostering for someone, that is named patches, sleeps in the cat house.

24. Charley never goes out - he was declawed when I found him!
I haven't let him out since he decided to come in, and he hasn't really tryed to go out either. I doubt I could even throw him out. :) I put him in the play pen a couple of times but he didn't really like it.

Lily goes out very rarely and Pad Thai only goes out on his leash or in the play pen.

My gang are all indoor condo kitties. But they wear collars and ID just in case.

23. Demnan...great pics!
I can see that their toys were a hit!

I had thought about getting the ball box...do they still play with it? My guys get bored with things so quickly, I hestitated to invest in it (saw it on the net and wanted to buy it).

Jake was climbing on it even before we had it put together.

Some fun pics. I put one of the packing straps over it as they were very interested in it:

27. some cat pics

This must have been the day we got the toy because the purple hanging toy is still on. My cats had ripped it off by that night.

This pic shows all 4 of the family together - mom on bottom, nilla in house, sasha on very top, mischief on second pillar. The top 3 cats of course are brother and sisters. They are 1 year old now.

sash says she likes the toy and plans on sleeping on the very top every night for now on. 2 months and she still is.

blacky says he takes a pillar when he can. He also loves to sleep on the toy

another pic of the kittens. They run around and play tag on this when they aren't sleeping on it.

The room is clean now, but I dare not move the mirror. They love being on the toy and looking at themselves in it. Sorry, don't have a pic yet of that.
