General question about birds for the bird experts.......
1)Molting - when does it usually happen, how many times a year, does it go pretty "smoothly" for your bird, things to watch for.

Ever since Murphee had that little episode with knocking out a blood feather, :( I've been more anxious about her feathers, and more aware of them. :) Seeing blood on her wing just threw me for a loop. :(

Anyways, I believe Murphee had her last molt August/September, and it didn't seem to bother her then. :)

1. usually when the seasons change
although indoor birds that have very steady, or very errratic day length sometimes molt a little all the time.
it is usually not a big deal, although sometimes will reveal an existing minor illness. frequent showers help to keep feather sheaths soft, and encourage preening. it is a good time to feed a little extra protien, and vitamins.

2. They usually
have a "hard" molt twice a year, and will have ongoing regrowth through out the year. They will molt more often if kept in light for more than 12 hours a day year round.

It is very easy to overdose on vitamins if your birds are eating pellets at all.
