Our family cat died yesterday
and I have am devasted. He had been in the vet for 5 days because the vet said he had crystals in his urine. He seemed to be doing better and on Monday evening I picked him up. He had his special diet food and medicine I was giving him and he seemed to be doing better--weak and thinner--but at least moving around and acting normal, for the most part.

Yesterday morning I left him to go to work for a few hours and he was fine, but when I walked in the door he was laying under the dining room table. I called his name, "monty" a few times and he didn't move and when I bent down I knew it  I am SO sad today:cry: and my kids are torn up too. I just don't understand what happened. I called the vet when I found him and he said he may have had a heart attack.

Such a void in our lives today. It makes me never want to get close to another pet again. It just hurts too much.

1. I'm so sorry.
It's so hard to lose a family member. We lost one last year, and it still hurts to read these messages and remember her, but it gets better. I'll be thinking of you and your family.

3. I'm sorry!
It may not be of much comfort, but I believe our beloved pets are waiting for us to rejoin them. When you're ready, think about getting a new pet. They really do help mend the wound. I have been through this 3 times.

4. I'm so sorry
at least you know you gave him as good a life as he possibly could have had and he loved you and your family as you loved him. That's the best life a loved pet can have, and when the grief abates a little, I'm sure you will find it in your heart to share that love again with another fortunate cat.

10. Thanks so much everyone!
I truly appreciate the kind words--and believe me, I need them more today than ever. My husband came in from work and said he had thought about Monty all day too. What a void.

Just to be around those who appreciate their pets right now is the best therapy. Our pets are truly a part of our family and my grief is tearing my heart out.

I know there will be better days, but for today I'm just so sad.

11. I'm so sorry (((((hug)))))
it's one of the most unkind facts of life that our "fur kids" can't live as long as we do. Give yourself time to grieve. In time, you'll remember his life more than you will his passing, and perhaps you'll find that you can let another pet in to your heart and home. You did all you could for him; I wish there were enough people in the world like you for all the pets who need someone.

14. I am so sorry to hear about Monty
Let yourself grieve for Monty right now. Don't make any decisions about another pet. It's too soon.

Bless you and your family. It's hard to lose a fuzzy baby. When I lost my Patches, I was devastated. I still cry and miss her.

Peace to you.

15. I Am So Sorry . . .
to hear of your loss.

I had a dachshund who died of a heart attack suddenly. I was totally devastated. Time helps heal . .

I ended up getting another dachshund about two months later. Having a new furry kid to care for helped alot. My two kitties were happy to have a new puppy to plot against!

16. I'm sorry
here is a  for you.
I went through this a few years ago with my cat Gizmo whom was with me for 14 years. I too was devastated.
I got a kitten shortly after however, Gypsy. She reminds me so much of Gizmo sometimes, it makes me smile.
I know it hurts now, but time will lessen the pain. again.

20. sorry to hear it
it's hard when it seems to be unexpected.

we lost two cats 1 month apart a couple of years ago. Ches, was around 21-22yrs old) and had been doing poorly so we knew it wouldn't be long. But the other cat, Something, was only 8 -- she went quickly from fatty-liver tumors.

A year later we lost our "rat-dog" (terrier-chihuahua mix), Rhonda (15yrs old) -- she too went quickly from liver-kidney-pancreas failure.

and now we have the grand-dames of the house (Kudra-18yrs and Dutch-16yrs) on thyroid meds -- holding their own and gaining some weight -- they go back to the vet next weekend for blood work.

Dax, the airdale (almost 9) is hobbling at times from arthritis -- but a baby asprin a day helps.

it is heart-breaking, and I know at the moment you want to just avoid it in the future by not getting close to another pet -- but it will come to a point where the house will seem empty and a little furry will re-enter your life

After Ches and Something died -- we took in a kitten (Poohka) and about 4 months later rescued a stray from my workplace (Gato) -- then after Rhonda went we adopted a rescued greyhound (Sunny) -- our house count is now back up to 4 cats and two dogs -- wouldn't have it any other way

21. We almost lost our cat to similar problems, but she proved to have
a kidney stone, as well as crystals. After ER treatment, a couple of days at the regular vet on IV fluids, and finally surgery, she recovered ($2000 later). Did your vet do x-rays? SO sorry you lost him.
