1. If any-cat needs some pointers on Christmas Tree management..
my cat Razpy has produced a webpage called 'Bert's Guide to Xmas Tree Demolition'. Bert is a Canadian tabby who kindly shared his story and photos with Razpy. The captions are in 'cat-speak', but are clear-ish phonetically..

PS I have 5 cats..haven't been brave enough to mount a tree since I got them!

And they look alike too.

4. We took our male Australian Cattle Dog to my parents' house for xmas
He had never seen a Christmas tree. Also, we have a 2+ acre yard with LOTS of trees. So when he came into my parents' house, the first thing he did was walk over and start peeing on the Christmas tree. We yelled and he got the message. No peeing on trees in the house. It was an honest mistake. He is nine years old and never "marks" inside the house. But a tree's a tree...

5. My kitty Walter's story
Walter's first Christmas, I put up the artificial tree and went to work. Walter was my 2nd cat and my first cat Patches always did fine with the tree. Anyway, I come home from work and the tree is on the floor. I figure 'someone' had done something but nobody was talking.

So I set the tree back up and later that evening, Walter goes over to the tree, climbs straight up the middle pole of the tree and when he gets to the top, rides the tree to the floor.

I gave up on artificial trees after that year. :-)

10. Some cats just can't resist.
A tree is just an odd cat ladder.

6. If I hang ornaments on the bottom branches, the ferrets
steal them and then take them to their hidey-holes. They will sometimes climb the tree, but it doesn't do any harm.

11. One year I was awakened by the strangest sound
I went into the living room to see the Christmas tree shaking. When I looked under the tree, I saw my 17 yr old terrier mix all lit up in Christmas lights. She was mostly blind at the time, she somehow managed to walk into a string of mini lights and got them wrapped around her torso. She gave up and just lay down and went to sleep waiting for someone to unwind her.
