This is the first time this ceremony and its structure has been shared with the western postmodernized and colonialized world.
The purpose of this four day ceremony is to re-introduce the womens networks that traditionally governed and cared for the hearts and lives of tribal women accross tribal boundaries regardless of how difficult travel and old world safety issues were. Women of the ancient world met each year, a four year re-committment was made, and every four years the ceremony was handed off to a different council to organize. This was done to insure every woman's voice was heard, and every need responded to. Sisters take care of sisters...with love.

1000 Hummingbirds is in the 2nd year of a 4-year cycle; for the Waters of the Earth, for rebirth and renewal; “All Women, All Nations”, from a common spirit-base, together distill inspired solutions. The vision reaches out beyond the first 4-year cycle; the mantle passes from council of women to council of women. Profound well-being for all Peoples; All Our Relations.. This is the core purpose and intent of our inter-weaving.
Native women always took care of source and supply networks. Now the Hummingbird Water Woman Council has convened to draw from the wisdom of such traditional networks. Hummingbird Women are addressing the preservation and/or restoration of these supply source networks, as well as drawing those who are willing to learn to build, expand and preserve these connections locally and across regions and Nations. The vision for all 1000 Hummingbird activities is effective collaboration and action that can be replicated and maintained successfully. Hummingbird Women bring solutions Home.
