Focusing our positive energy
I've been feeling lately the need to build up positive energy to combat all the negative energy around us. So please post your random positive thought here, whether for the world, the country, whomever. Here's mine:

It's a new and beautiful day. Let's make it a good one.

1. Let me pray for life, not death.
It may not be appropriate, but it's what popped into my head.

2. Music and sound
provide much beauty in this world. The music can come from instruments, voices, or the sounds of nature.

3. Watch nature when you can
I enjoyed watching my resident sparrows delight in the freshly rototilled garden this afternoon. I even found a video on YouTube to illustrate this activity! (I had a lot more dust kickin' up, tho)

Whenever I feel anxious, I just "be" with the animals in my yard. My son describes it as a "Disney movie" back there.

4. "Two cows like me!"
I accompanied MG Jr. and the whole crew of kindergarteners (three classes worth) on their field trip to a local farm today. Watching 5-year-olds pet horses and bunnies and cradle fragile little chicks in their palms is a joy to behold. But it was downright enchanting when a little girl named Zoie--one of Jr's classmates and, apparently, his "girlfriend" (!)--spent quite some time gazing up at two cows in the "dry barn" (where the non-milkers reside) and the cows spent just as much time gazing back at her. She was so excited to tell everyone that she had made two new friends. It was adorable.

Spend time around kids, if you can--even just observing them in a park or a mall or some other public place. It's a great way to cleanse the palate.

5. Rose petals make a beautiful tea.
Gather 1 cu fragrant rose petals (from unsprayed roses) 2 hours after morning dew burns off and wash them.

Pour 2 cu boiling water over the rose petals and let steep 1 hour.

Remove the petals and set the infusion aside. It's good for use in recipes calling for rosewater ("real rosewater is distilled" says the food-snob). Keep it refrigerated & use quickly or freeze in an ice cube tray.

Pick a few sprigs of fresh mint the length of your hand. Wash, remove ugly leaves & excess stem and place in a large teapot or a 1qt bowl

Pour boiling water over mint and steep.

For iced tea, let the mint tea cool and pour into a tall glass, over ice. add one or two shots of the rosewater. Sweeten (or don't).

Happy spring!

7. I picked up a new link
from someone in the Health forum. I couldn't find the post later to thank them :hi:
When I read this I thought of your OP.

"I have times of feeling low, and crying's a good thing sometimes. But I never take any of my runaway thoughts seriously anymore, the ones that come up during those times. I don't know about you, but I give myself a lot of room for some temporary insanity!.. knowing that my perspective is all skewed during those times. It's just a rough spot to go through, that's all, and you'll get through it. And when you just can't "pull yourself out of it", to be very self-forgiving. This isn't a race or a matter of brute force, it's a matter of giving your body a chance to heal itself, and it really does most of that for you. I know it's easy to say "take it easy", but that's really how you move through this. Take some deep breaths and be good to yourself."

8. wow. Good advice, although a bit scary to think of feeling that blue
Something happens as you get older, I think, and you become just a lot less emotional than when you're young. For me it has been a blessing. My son is just starting to go through that teenage emotional whirlwind.

11. Absolutely
we mellow. It didn't seem that scary to me. I've stared into the Abyss.
Not much can scare you after that ordeal.

It's all okay :grouphug:

Good luck with the teen years.

9. Good advice
I checked the URL--- it's a diet support site, but this is good for issues more difficult as well.

I have flashbacks and deal with long term effects from several intense issues, any of which alone, and for the length of time I experienced them, would be a serious challenge. There are things that may feel comforting for most people, but are traumatic triggers for others.

When I have bad days, the runaway thoughts are what create alot of pain. Best thing for those moments is to find ways to soothe oneself. They do always pass, which is hard to remember when you're IN it.

Good thoughts for me include this little internal dialogue, "Wow! I have come SO far in my life! I've dedicated myself to improving and I'm doing pretty damn good now. I remember where I was, and where I am now is light years beyond that! I did that! That's all been due to MY perseverance and courage!"

Also meditation: dynamic (I chant Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo daily), and good-feeling guided meditation (I especially like the Flowdreaming cd when I'm already feeling contented or better)

10. Yes, it's a diet site. "Specific Carbohydrate Diet"
Here's another related:
http://www.scdiet.org/default.html

I don't have those specific conditions, but have never tolerated wheat well, have had issues with carbs, and think this may give me the motivation to straighten up my eating habits. Most of my despair comes from dealing with my medical conditions.

And, yes, me too; the mention of runaway thoughts grabbed me. I had read advice about that from a different source recently and have actually begun to use it; to distance myself from them and realize they don't necessarily represent reality. Thoughts have the power to take us even lower; and I often lack the ability to raise the thoughts. So, putting them in perspective and disregarding for the moment has been a good solution for me at times.
