Kwanzaa thread
Kwanzaa starts on Dec. 26. I opened this thread in hopes we can talk about Kwanzaa principles or what we're doing for Kwanzaa.

See you tomorrow!

1. Day 1 (Unity) -sorry this is late
My thoughts on unity while looking back at the 2006 elections, where Americans were motivated to make a change in Congress and various gubernatorial elections, and the results in representation.

I only hope we can take the momentum from the 2006 elections and create energy to bring unity in our neighborhoods and local governments.

My unity challenge tonight was a DIY family portrait...well we got through it..LOL.

What's your thought on unity?

3. Day 2 Kujichagulia (Self-Determination)
The floor is open for your comments!

For me it means I have the power to define own destiny!

I feel fortunate to have the resources to accomplish that and I volunteer through mentoring to help others find the power to define their destiny!

A day late but wanted to see if anyone else is going to reflect on this.

The 3rd day I give tribute to all the DU'ers who make a difference to make their communities a better place!

Day 4; Want to pay tribute to the National Urban League for their contributions to helping the development and nurturing of small business
Also appreciation for those financial institutions and investors who believe in supporting neglected communities
And also to all the entrepreneurs who are living their dreams by starting their own business.

6. Day 5 Nia (Purpose)
Reflecting on purpose -- our destinies and our purpose in life directly linked to our decisions.
I'd like to dedicate this day to the incoming Congress, their purpose is to represent we, the people, and may they have the courage and fortitude to serve.

7. Day 6: Kuumba (Creativity)
One of my favorite days of Kwanzaa. Let us remember those who passed this year who were the essence of creativity and talent, such as Billy Preston, James Brown, Gerald Levert, Rosie Lee Tomkins, Robert McFerrin, to name a few. If there is someone else, please add.

Typically on the 6th day evening there is a large meal to celebrate the harvest. We're going to have a simple meal and have some of the celebratory stuff tomorrow.

8. Day 7: Imani (Faith)
At the end of Kwanzaa, look at the events in 2006 which tested our faith and belief in our country.
Through all this, we can persevere, believe in truth, justice and freedom and the power to control our destiny. Keep the faith, everyone!

I posted Day 7 on Dec 31 as I will be busy getting ready for the work week!
