Sailors E-3 and below were prohibited from leaving Sasebo Naval Base after a sailor was arrested by Japanese police for allegedly trespassing at an apartment building in Fukuoka, the base said Monday.

Seaman Lamarco Vermicheal James, 22, was arrested Saturday morning for unlawful entry and was in the custody of Japanese police Monday, according to Japanese police and Navy officials.

Junior enlisted sailors were barred indefinitely from leaving the Navy base under an order Sunday from the docked fleet’s senior officer, according to base spokesman Chuck Howard.

A Chuo ward police official said James was arrested at 6:10 a.m. Saturday on suspicion of trespassing in an apartment building in Akasaka cho in Chuo ward, a police spokesman said.

Police received a call around 4:30 a.m. that he and a woman were arguing at a restaurant near Tenjin, the spokesman said. He said James had fled the establishment when the police arrived but was found in the apartment building by police searching the area.
