Air Force ends disparity in testing in CENTCOM
Air Force ends disparity in testing in CENTCOM

ARLINGTON, Va. — The Air Force has decided to stop requiring promotions testing for enlisted airmen stationed in the U.S. Central Command area, not just the ones deployed there on one-year tours.

Airmen on PCS orders to the region were expected to do Weighted Airman Promotion System, or WAPS testing, while deployed airmen were excused.

Effective Feb. 1, if the promotions testing cycle begins while an airman is stationed in CENTCOM, he or she will be allowed to postpone the exams, according to an Air Force message issued this week.

Once the airman returns to his home station, he will have 60 days to study before makeup tests.

If the airman is selected for promotion, the Air Force will provide back pay and benefits to the date the airman would have sewed on the stripe during the regular promotion cycle, according to Lt. Col. Scott Brady, chief of Air Force promotions and evaluations policy at the Pentagon.
