WASHINGTON — Former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Peter Pace this week was named president and CEO of SM&A Strategic Advisors, a defense consulting firm.

Officials from the company, which helps coordinate defense contracts for aerospace and military equipment firms, said Pace’s leadership skills and experience made him the perfect candidate for the post. He also was named to the company’s board of directors.

He served as the most senior military leader for more than two years before stepping down last fall, and served as Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs for four years prior to that.

In a statement, Pace called the new post “the opportunity to make a difference by bringing effective and efficient solutions to the military personnel in the field and by helping the government get what it pays for on time and on budget.”
