SEOUL — U.S. military dining facilities across South Korea have pulled cans of garbanzo and green beans following a recall because of possible botulism contamination.

Army food inspectors received the recall message on Friday and ensured that “affected items have been pulled and will not be utilized,” an 18th Medical Command news release said.

The New Era Canning Company beans, which come in cans weighing between 6 and 7 pounds, are not sold in any U.S. military commissary or shoppette in South Korea, the release said.

The beans may have “been processed under conditions which could have led to contamination by Clostridium botulinum bacterium spores, which can cause life-threatening illness or death,” a U.S. Food and Drug Administration news release said.

No botulism cases have been reported, and no product has tested positive for the toxin, according to the FDA.
