Force-shaping board canceled

The Air Force won’t be showing lieutenants the door in 2008.

A force-shaping board that had been set to select about 90 lieutenants to leave the service is canceled, said Tom Voegtle, a separations policy specialist for the Air Staff’s personnel directorate.

About 760 lieutenants, all from the 2005 year group, were in overmanned career fields that faced cuts. Of those lieutenants, the service aimed to trim 91 positions.

The targeted career fields had included communications, developmental engineer and scientist.

Voegtle said the service decided not to cut the lieutenants’ ranks because enough officers in all ranks were volunteering to leave the service in fiscal 2008.
