Northrop to install cameras at ICBM sites

The Air Force has awarded a $33.5 million contract to Northrop Grumman Mission Systems to install security cameras at 250 inter-continental ballistic missile launch facilities.

The camera installations are part of the larger ICBM Security Modernization Program, which started in 2004 and is aimed at extending the service life of the Minute Man II ICBM through 2020, according to a statement by Maj. Gen. Roger Burg, commander of Strategic Command, to the Senate Armed Services Committee in March 2007.

At the committee hearing, Burg proposed purchasing 60 cameras during fiscal year 2008.

Due to the scheduled reduction of the Minuteman III stockpile, no cameras will be installed at Malmstrom Air Force Base, Mont., according to Burg’s statement.
