3 airmen arrested in surplus store break-in

Three active-duty airmen at Langley Air Force Base, Va., were arrested on allegations they broke into a military surplus store, The Virginian-Pilot reported on its Web site Thursday. The store’s owner was sleeping inside and caught the airmen about 3:05 a.m. Thursday, holding one of them at gunpoint until police officers arrived, Newport News police said.

Police arrested Airman Scotty Harold Light, 20; Airman 1st Class John Jacob Solecki, 20; and Airman 1st Class Timothy Michael Wiggins, 20. Light and Solecki, who live on base, each were charged with burglary, attempted grand larceny and conspiracy to commit burglary. Wiggins was charged with burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary, according to the newspaper.

All three men are assigned to security forces at Langley, a base spokesman confirmed.

Jeffrey Thompson, the owner of CQB Military Surplus, told the Virginian-Pilot that he decided to spend several nights inside his store after someone tried to pry open the back door Sunday. The alarm went off, but police found no one there when they arrived.

“I suspected that they were going to come back,” Thompson said.
