House wants to revamp adult-mag review panel

The House Armed Services Committee wants to place new, specific guidelines on the structure of the Pentagon board that reviews sexually explicit materials to determine whether they can be sold on military installations.

The board would be required to have nine people, at least one who has experience managing or advocating for military family programs, and is also eligible to shop in the commissaries and exchanges.

The secretary of defense would appoint a total of six members “to broadly represent the interests of the patron base served by the defense commissary system and exchange system,” according to the committee’s version of the 2009 defense authorization bill.

The other three members of the board would be appointed by the secretaries of the Army, Air Force and Navy.

~snip~

The House provision did not adopt a requirement for a more narrow definition of “sexually explicit” that was included in a separate bill introduced by a Georgia congressman.
