More than 100 soldiers from the North Dakota Army National Guard’s 817th Engineer Company are on their way home after serving in Iraq.

The unit is headed to Fort McCoy, Wis., for demobilization, and the soldiers are expected to arrive in North Dakota in about two weeks.

Soldiers from the 817th and 815th engineer companies were alerted for mobilization in February 2007. The units, which mobilized in June 2007, combined and served as the 817th.

While deployed, the soldiers — who are from nearly 40 cities across North Dakota — conducted route clearance missions. They detected and cleared 119 improvised explosive devices, cleared 82,000 kilometers of roadway and conducted more than 575 combat patrol missions.
