JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — A junior Marine involved in a wreck that claimed a woman’s life last month has been charged in her death.

Pvt. Earl W. Zuspann, 20, was charged Wednesday with involuntary manslaughter, failure to report an accident, delaying a public officer, operating a motor vehicle with no insurance, reckless driving, speeding and driving left of center, a North Carolina Highway Patrol spokesman said.

The Camp Lejeune, N.C.-based Marine with Combat Logistics Battalion 26, 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, was driving his 2006 Chevrolet full-sized pickup truck on April 25 in the outer westbound lane on U.S. 258 outside Jacksonville, when he switched lanes in the five-lane highway to pass two cars, the investigating trooper said.

Zuspann crossed the center turn lane, struck a motorcycle and a pickup truck pulling a utility trailer before hitting a taxi cab head-on, Trooper J.D. Kirk said in a May 1 interview.

The driver of the cab, Sally Elizabeth AndreAshman, died of her injuries in a hospital after the 2:30 p.m. wreck.
