ANNAPOLIS — A drunken brawl near the Annapolis City Dock ended with a midshipman charged with punching a female midshipman in the face and pushing her boyfriend into the water.

The incident Sunday began about 8 p.m. when senior Daitra Ann Pierson allegedly was struck in the face by Joseph D. Baer, 23, after she and her boyfriend, Jose Anderson Ayala, tried to break up a scuffle between midshipmen and three civilians, according to court documents.

The couple told authorities that Baer and another man refused to leave the scene.

"Both were drunk, uncooperative and disrespectful," she alleged in court charging documents.

She said Baer snapped her cell phone in half when she threatened to report his behavior to the academy and shoved Ayala, 22, into the water before running off. No one was injured.

Annapolis police charged Baer with two counts of assault and one of malicious destruction of property.
