A new detachment that manages MQ-1 Predator and MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial vehicle operational test and evaluation and force development evaluation stood up at Creech Air Force Base, Nev., on Nov. 1, the Air Force announced Thursday.

The new unit, Detachment 4 of the 53rd Test Management Group, provides operational expertise for developmental test and evaluation for new sensors, weapons, hardware and software upgrades, including developing operational procedures and training aircrews and maintainers, according to an Air Force press release.

The detachment has about 10 airmen — program managers, flight test analysts and engineers — and is commanded by Maj. Keith Turner.

It was formerly part of a Detachment 4, 53rd Test and Evaluation Group, which operates the MQ-1 Predator at Creech. Pilots and sensor operators will remain with that unit.

The new detachment’s role entails the planning, execution and reporting of tests and making field recommendations to war fighters, the press release said.
