NEW YORK — An Army officer has been arrested on charges that he stole fuel from Camp Liberty in Baghdad, Iraq, authorities announced Tuesday.

Chief Warrant Officer Joseph Crenshaw, 38, of Watertown, N.Y., was arrested Monday on a bribery count contained in a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Manhattan.

Federal authorities said the crime occurred last spring while Crenshaw was stationed in Baghdad.

If convicted, he could face up to 15 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.

In a release, U.S. Attorney Michael Garcia said Crenshaw was “motivated by greed rather than duty.”

Crenshaw was due to appear in federal court later in the day, though it was not immediately clear who would represent him.
