Indian air force to fly over Nellis AFB

The Indian Air Force will be in the skies over Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., this summer.

The Indian Ministry of Defense announced Monday that its nation’s air force would participate in the Red Flag exercise set for August at Nellis. There was no mention of what aircraft India would send or how many airmen the nation would arrive.

India’s presence would mark the first time the nation has participated in a Nellis Red Flag. The Indian air force’s chief air superiority fighter is the Sukhoi Su-30MKI.

In recent years, U.S. Air Force F-15 Eagles and F-16 Fighting Falcons have flown to India to fly in combat training exercises with their Indian counterparts and Indian military officials have visited their U.S. counterparts.

Red Flag, held several times a year, is the U.S. Air Force’s primary exercise for large-scale air operations, combining air-to-air and ground attack missions. The goal is to give aircrews a taste of what the opening days of an air war are like.
