Army Wants Vets Back
Edited on Wed Dec-07-05 12:52 AM by RobertSeattle
Any DU Vets get any of these? (I've been out 13+ years so I don't think I'll be getting one :-) )

Associated Press | November 30, 2005
WASHINGTON - For former soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines who might be toying with the idea of getting back into uniform, the Army has a new offer: Join us and regain your old rank without repeating basic training.

It's the latest twist in the Army's pitch for recruits at a time when wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are making it increasingly difficult to enlist young people and meet the Army's need for 80,000 new soldiers a year.

"It's common sense," says Lt. Col. Bryan Hilferty, an Army spokesman. For the cost of mailing a brochure to targeted former service members, the Army can open a door that had been jammed shut before.

The Army previously had welcomed back former service members, but only under conditions that made it an unattractive proposition to most, namely that they would lose their prior rank and were required to take basic training again.

12. HA!
I can't imagine the Pentagon seeking Vietnam Vets after we were dicked around and lied to before. Can any of you imagine what ton of 'in your face' shit they'd have on their hands if they took in Vietnam Vets?!! Now Desert Storm vets might buy into their bs after the Pentagon made it look so easy in '91 in Iraq, but I could only hope those vets have been searching the real truth with various news agencies about what really is going down in Iraq this time around and reconsider being tricked into re-uppin'.

You're right, they can't find any seasoned vets to lead the way with this IraqNam fiasco. But then, why would they? They need those easily fooled gung ho seekers to fill their new ranks for sacrifice. We need to bring back our National Defense and close the Bush War Office!!

10. Up the Bribes
No one who has been to Iraq (qualifier: and isn't a Fobbit) will reenlist. George has done this military damage that will take a decade to repair.

doing airfields, bridging rivers and such under fire.

EODs are masters of their fate. Initial success or total failure. But it is their personal burden to carry and seldom under fire.

I had two friends that were army Divers. One a Medic the other in Engineers I think. Construction diving is very dangerous.
