Maxwell reserve squadron deploys to Iraq

Members of the Air Force Reserve Command’s 908th Security Forces Squadron at Maxwell Air Force Base deployed to Iraq on Tuesday.

And while the six-month deployment might be a bittersweet start of the new year, the reservists are grateful they got to spend the holidays at home.

“I was gone this time last year, so this is a whole lot better,” said Senior Master Sgt. Owen Duke, who has been with the 908th since 1992. “Being home for all of the holidays is a blessing.”

Today’s deployment is the first of several for the 908th during the first two months of the year. By mid-February, about 50 reservists are expected to be deployed, said spokesman Lt. Col. Jerry Lobb.

For those who have been deployed before, getting everything squared away at home has become easier.
