CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. — A defense lawyer says he expects the former head of the top supplier of body armor to the U.S. military to be released on bail while he faces federal fraud charges, after months of negotiations over bail conditions.
Attorney Paul Shectman is declining to comment on release terms for the former executive, David H. Brooks. A spokesman for federal prosecutors also is declining to comment. A bail hearing is set for Thursday in Central Islip.
A judge has said Brooks could be released if he agreed to be under armed guard — and convinced prosecutors that they had full control of his extensive assets so he could not use them to flee.
The 53-year-old Brooks is the founder and former chief executive of DHB Industries Inc., now Point Blank Solutions Inc. He has pleaded not guilty to fraud, insider trading and tax evasion.
