HRC preps for merger, move to Knox
HRC preps for merger, move to Knox

Even as the bulldozers churn at Fort Knox, the Army’s Human Resources Command is reorganizing to accommodate the merger of its three major components at the northern Kentucky installation.

Under the Base Closure and Realignment Commission mandate of 2005, HRC will join with Accessions Command, Recruiting Command and Cadet Command to form the Army’s Center of Excellence for Human Resources Programs.

For HRC, this will require the move of existing organizations at Alexandria, Va., for the career management of active-component officers and enlisted soldiers; at Indianapolis for active-component enlisted records maintenance and promotion boards; and at St. Louis for reserve career management and selection boards.

While the BRAC mandate requires the merger be completed by September 2011, most moves will be completed by 2010, according to Maj. Gen. Sean Byrne, HRC commander.

The facility will include two large buildings, with HRC’s 3,200 military and civilian employees occupying one building and about 40 percent of the other.
