DOD: Most services met goals for recruiting

ARLINGTON, Va. — All military services and components, except one, were able to meet or exceed their recruiting goals in December, according to numbers released Thursday by the Pentagon.

The only component that came up short was the Air National Guard, with 624 recruits shipped to boot camp in December, from a goal of 650.

However, the active-duty Army goal for December was also an unusually low number: 750 recruits. A total of 789 recruits were shipped, or 105 percent.

The active Army’s November recruiting goal, by contrast, was more than six times higher: 4,750 recruits (4,783 were shipped).

December is the third straight month that the Army set modest recruiting goals for itself, leaving the service with just 10,136 new recruits so far in fiscal 2008.
