"The Fix" handicaps John Kerry's possible 08 run
"John Kerry: The 2004 Democratic nominee has effectively positioned himself as one of the leading Democratic critics of Bush administration's handling of the war in Iraq, a role unwittingly reinforced by the president when he mentioned Kerry by name during a speech on the conflict last month. While Kerry seems to have found his footing on Iraq, it may be too little too late in the eyes of primary voters. But with an e-mail list numbering 3 million and the experience garnered from running a national campaign, Kerry merits a spot in the top 5"

1. Number 5 is a good position in a horse race, especially if the horse
is a distance runner.

2. Yawn.
No offense to you for posting this; it's just tiresome to see all his good work compared to what often seems like non-work, or clever PR positioning.

Then again, he's on the list, so I guess that's something :)

3. That annoys me too...as if people think every single thing he says and
does is geared to positioning himself for another Presidential run. What part of "doing his job" don't they get? That he's more outspoken and more passionate than ever only speaks to the fact that Senator Kerry now speaks for more of us than he ever did before. He's taken on the added responsibility of champion for the disenfranchised. He's not doing it for personal glory. He's doing it because it's right. People should concentrate on defeating the black hats instead of being cynical about the motivations of the white hats.

4. I'd even feel better about it all
if crap like the 9-11 thing yesterday and the supposed, like, Press Conference Showdown at the OK Corral weren't becoming bigger stories than the important legislation he's been introducing. I wish pundits would just come out and say, "We're just not interested enough in Senator Kerry, so we don't think voters should be excited by him, either." Because that so often feels like what's going on.

7. I don't get the 9-11 thread. To me, it means nothing at all.
Who in the "real world" really cares about Raw Story. What is wrong with suggesting that 9-11 was a major factor in his defeat? I really think that 9-11 did play a large part in the loss. Most of those who posted negatively seemed to give me the impression that they expected him to claim fraud.
As for the poll, the only thing I find suprising is Bayah. Besides all of this information seemed to be speculation. I personally feel Kerry has a good shot.I am not going to let this poll conjecture get me down. DU, Raw Story, kos etc. only measure a small blip on the radar of media connections.Consider that the largest postings go to the story about Clinton and video games. Shows whats important to many of the people at DU. I even doubt that these Kerry bashers will be motivated to even vote in 2008. They may not like him, but do you think they dislike him enough to go to the polls and vote against him?I don't know, they seem like a lazy bunch to me. IMO,people are going to be looking for true experience and leadership in 2008.

8. Well, fair or unfair, it takes nearly 4 years to gear up for a
presidential run, and because it will be an open race, I don't actually think it's ridiculous to speculate on '08, as long as we acknowledge that IF a candidate does things good for THE PEOPLE, then such acts stand alone, regardless of his or her future ambitions. I already talked about the good works Gov. Warner has done that are just plain good. Period.

So going for the speculation, I will maintain that Hillary, Gov. Warner, and Kerry are the only ones who will make it in prime time in the Democratic '08 race. And I think that shows the excellent talent Democrats will be showing. Beyond that, who knows? The horse race is only interesting when you're talking about REAL WORKS. Kerry and Warner have been doing good things. So how about it, Hillary? What good work will you do to show you're sincere?

9. I have not been impressed with Hillary lately. It worries me that
she is waiting and watching for shifts in attitudes before she makes up her mind on very important issues like the war. I don't know she seems like a "positioner" to me without much substance.

10. Last time the PAC said anything about the email list
in an email a while back they said it was at 5 million. Not one candidate betwen now and 08 will be able to top what he's going in with.

11. I'm glad he's not the frontrunner
By 2008, people will get sick of being ordered by the media to vote for Hillary. If the news now were full of "Kerry is unbeatable," people would be rooting for someone to beat him. It's nice he's in the top 5 but not the very top.

12. Totally agree.
And I'd bet he's happy about it too.
