So what are the wingnuts up to?
Edited on Tue Dec-13-05 09:03 PM by ProSense
While the folk over in GD are trying to prove Kerry is just left of center, the wingnuts are trying to paint him as a leftist estremist aiding foreign governments.

Senator Kerry to aid European left in CIA investigation

1. Didn't his office put out a statement that the Senator
would not be allowed to pass on classified information on the day his name was mentioned. They really are desperate. First saying Kerry thinks the soldiers are terrorist - which is only 180 degrees off then this.

3. This comes out of left field- so to speak. I will put on my tin foil
hat for a moment and mention that the new German government supports Bush much more than Schroeder did. I wonder if this paper isn't printing this information on behalf of the new German government and as a help to our administration. It is so indirect and seems so easy to just make something like this up. I know he called the administration out on these secret prisons, I wonder if this isn't a case of tit for tat.

4. I think you can put your tin foil hat away. Here's the original article
http://service.spiegel.de/cache/international/spiegel/0,1518,387185,00.html

Relevant quote:

Another amendment the US Congress recently approved would give the US government 60 days to present a detailed report on the secret CIA prisons, or black sites. Specifically, Congress wants information on both the locations of these sites and all the interrogation methods allegedly used there. In other words, it appears that the US Congress and Swiss prosecutor Marty are both urgently seeking the same information.

The Council of Europe's investigator already submitted a discreet request to the office of Democratic Senator John Kerry, who proposed the amendment, asking for information on the outcome of the report. Meanwhile, however, Marty can at least look forward to receiving informal help. In light of the heated debate over torture in Washington, the prospects of keeping the highly confidential report under wraps are slim.

And some background on Spiegel -- it's pretty lefty, and definitely hates * just like the rest of the country. Check out the whole article -- they refer to the CIA prisons as "gulags" and there's plenty of embarrassment for the Germans who let planes fly through. It really goes back to Schroeder. Merkel is too new, and I don't think her government is all too thrilled about this scandal. Anyway, this Marty guy is kind of like Fitzgerald -- he's a prosecutor -- and he's going to get to the bottom of this. Since the U.S. Senate is against torture 89-9, and they want oversight on this from Congress, would someone explain to me how this amounts to treason?

5. This is the article that trigger the statement from Kerry's office.
Edited on Tue Dec-13-05 11:07 PM by ProSense
When that article came out, the take on it was that it was a slap in the face to Bush over the whole incident. In effect, they were name dropping. Kerry issued the statement clearly pointing out that it was out of legal bounds for him to distribute such information. (This is from memory)

The current batch of articles are in wingnut rags interpreting the contents of the original article. Needless to say its all downhill from there. Just look at the headlines.

6. I totally agree with your assessment of the situation in Germany
I don't live there anymore but I still follow the politics and news on TV a bit and Germany is outraged about the whole CIA prison and secret flights scandal. And finally Merkel's government with the grand coalition isn't that far right and not so favorable to the Bush administration as BushCo had wished for.

7. Keyes. The one who called Mary Cheney a selfish hedonist
The headline is false. Kerry isn't about to aid anyone yet. The request has been made to his office. The article says nothing about any answer.

These people have reading comprehension issues.
