2. Thanks. But is Kyl pathetic or what?
I think he just said U.S. citizens are "the enemy". Cause in a time of war, the pRez has power to eavesdrop on "the enemy". Thus it is ok to eavesdrop on US citizens.

Oh, now he said that the thing the NYT reported is "not about eavesdropping on US citizens." I am so confused....

Now saying Plame leak no big deal, her "identity was pretty well known anyway."

:banghead:

:puke:

I love how he threw the stonewalling on the Patriot Act back at Bush because of his unwillingness to include the provisions from the other version.

12. This was a really great speech.
Too many things for me to remember, but I think there were nearly of the themes that Kerry cares, energy, civil rights, security, environment, and clean government.

18. the man is a walking encyclopedia
He was prepared to speak on the Defense bill and Anwar, but decided to address Kyl's Patriot Act statements first, and did it entirely off the cuff.

19. True. Kerry has a tremendous grasp of the pros and cons of the issues.
It's thrilling to watch him lay out his case, and he does it with such passion.

15. He's doing awesome.
Really driving it home about how bogus it is to attempt to attach environmental rape and war profiteering to a defense bill!

We all know the Repukes are doing this so later they can say "Kerry voted against ANWR! It would have helped the troops! Kerry hates the troops! WAAAAHHHHH!"

Stick to your guns, Kerry, you make me proud. (Oh, and HOW handsome does he look in that suit jacket?)

I'm gonna start watching/taping all his speeches and Senate activity, so I can begin writing my arguments and rebuttals NOW in preparation for 2008. If any freeper gets in my face, I'll have had two years to rehearse my arguments, and will be ready to bitch-slap them upside their empty little heads with a whopping dose of TRUTH

20. He did very, very well on this.
The beginning part of the speech that talked about the bait-and-switch Patriot Act that the uber-weasel House passed in the wee hours of the night was great. Sen. Kerry really hit all the right notes on this one. This Rethugs are being completely reprehensible on this. (Kyl is a huge hypocrite. We need to let leaking go when basically it is done for the purposes of political retribution as in the Valerie Plame case. However, when it's our nuts in the fire, as in the NSA spying on American citizens without benefit of Constitutionally required constraints, well then, we must pull out all the stops to find the leaker. The Founding Fathers of this nation must have just rolled over in their graves in disgust at that motherf**ker. This is whorish behavior at it's absolute worst.)

Then again, they also hit new lows on the Defense Bill. (Gawd, I hope this cowardly and cynical manipulation of money meant to go to support the troops and to support Katrina victims that is being hijakced onto Ted Stevens need to destroy the Alaskan wilderness get thwarted. What a piece of work Stevens is. I hope to Gawd this bill gets defeated so Ted can follow through on his promise to resign if he doesn't get his way.)

Go JK. Go get 'em. Just keep telling the truth. The bastards just can't handle that. (Did you hear Stevens try and defend himself today. "I am not a weasel." Yes, Ted, you really are. In fact, weasels are starting to object, because you are giving them a bad name.)

21. Was the entire Patriot act piece just off the cuff?
It sounded so great and really spelled out the fact that the issues were the rights of American citizens and the Constitution. Things a President should think of. With all of this unfolding, it's even sadder that we don't have John and Teresa in the White House - with the wonderful first daughters and first sons (step-sons?) visiting for the holidays.

I had seen his statement posted here on the Patriot act that spelled out the differences, but some of the more general things made the point even better. (His voice does sound like he still has a bad cold - which makes it even more impressive.)

22. It looked to me like he was getting pages as he spoke.
I think the stuff on the Patriot Act may have been off-the-cuff. (Well, he is wicked smaht.) I heard both the Senator and the former Prosecutor speaking on that, which is a nice combination. (We do need parts of the PAtriot Act. There is stuff in there that strenghthens the ability of the govt to ferret out threats. But we don't need parts of it at all and those provisions are gateway drugs to tyranny. I think Sen. Kerry put that in perspective very well.) And why hasn't the govt done something to reign in the Rethugs who fired the gay FBI interpreters who were trying to go through all the data that was collected as a 'threat against the US'? Remember that? We have all this intelligence that has been gathered and no way to process it. (This contributed to 9/11 and the Bushies refuse to acknowlege that.) They are doing jackshit to actually solve any problems.

A lot of these issues and the way in which the Rethugs try to shove their agenda down the Congress' throat have been going on all year. Remember the move to get rid of the filibuster all together earlier in the year? Same tactics. Bastids. Just friggin Rethug bastids.

23. But Tay Tay, you don't understand their translations would have been so
gay. How would George and Dick have ever understood - they would have needed Mary and Lynne Cheney to translate for them.

Seriously, I STILL don't understand why there wasn't an uproar when they fired the gay translators - National Security alone demanded exceptions. Even if you accepted that there was a problem with someone being openly gsy in the military (which I don't), how on earth can it be a problem for someone translating documents.

25. It's all part of the eternal mystery that is Rethuglicanism
Honestly, they can't find a cure at the MIT Brain Research Center fast enough for me.

I wonder why this point, that they fired all the gay translators of intel at the FBI, hasn't come out in DU. Methinks a post in GD is in order.

... then I thought that maybe he made notes while listening to the nonsensical garbage Kyl spewed just before he took the floor (and fondly remembered the 1st debate...)
