DID YOU GET THIS E-MAIL?
DEMOCRATS.COM

IMPEACHMENT BREAKTHROUGH

Since we told you Tuesday night about Congressman Conyers' new bills to hold Bush and Cheney accountable for their war lies, 26,000 people have visited the action alert page, and 17,000 have Emailed their Congress Members. You can add to those numbers here:
http://capwiz.com/pdamerica/issues/alert/?alertid=8329176

...
And Congress Members and Senators are talking about impeachment. Rep. John Lewis says he favors it. Rep. John Conyers has introduced a bill to create an investigation into grounds for it, and seven other Congress Members have immediately signed on. Senator Barbara Boxer announced that she is asking legal scholars for advice on it. Senator Kerry said there are grounds for impeachment; then he flip-flopped -- but it wouldn't be Kerry without that.

1. Those people are deluded.
I am not going to join with a bunch of whiny little jerks that attack other Democrats. These people can find some other patsy to play their little mind games on.

Honestly, some lefty freepers are the dumbest bastards on the planet. They say they want a movement to change the government. Then they do everything possible to make sure that only the purest liberals of them all can join the movement, thus negating their own power. I want nothing to do with these numbnuts. They are too friggin dumb to pay attention to and I don't want to work with them ever, if I can help it.

2. What really rankles me
Is their banner - DEMOCRATS.COM/UNITY

I hate that shit. Hence my unsubscribe message.

"Senator Kerry said there are grounds for impeachment; then he flip-flopped -- but it wouldn't be Kerry without that."
Take me off your mailing list.
"Unity" my ass.

I'm sure they won't lose any sleep over it, but I hope they lost support for that snide little remark. Jackasses. How dare they call themselves Democrats.

6. Good.
My first reaction was "screw you", but I opted for the more mature "... my ass"
OK. It's not incredibly eloquent, but it makes the point.

What are you taking all back, BTW? Curious.

10. Sorry to be unclear!
I was taking back my original comment about not sending them a nasty note! Because you all have inspired me! :-)

This is what I just sent them (I got a little verbose and melodramatic! LOL!)

I am deeply angry that a group that drapes itself in the name of my lifelong political party and emblazons the word "unity" on its homepage would include the following in a mailing to its members:

> Senator Kerry said there
> are grounds for impeachment; then he flip-flopped -- but it wouldn't be
> Kerry without that.

How DARE you use a neocon Republican smear, completely devoid of truth, in regard to one of the most principled, most consistent public servants this country has ever known? In the face of ingratitude and ignorance from not only right-wing but also so-called "progressive" shallowness like yours, John Kerry has spent the year after the election working tirelessly to fight a GOP majority in Congress, against all odds, to keep this country from sliding into fascism and all you can do is echo Karl Rove's talking
points? For once, why don't you try to see who this man really is and what he's done for our nation, rather than taking the easy, unthinking path of scapegoating him?

Millions of Americans were NOT ABB, we really believed in our vote for John Kerry. We're still proud we voted for him and we believe he will someday make one of our greatest presidents.

Although I believe in the work you are doing, I cannot ally myself with your group unless you apologize for disrespecting one of the most loyal and effective Democrats we have. I have unsubscribed from all Democrats.com mailings.

I steaming mad. I read a shit post on Yahoo (Huffington) that attacked every Democratic leader we have. The gist was 10 Christmas wishes and the only thing the moron included about Bush was a wish for him to convert to Christianity.

Even some Republicans see how grave the situation is for Bush with this latest news and for the GOP with the whole Abramoff plea in the works, and the only thing these whiny bastards can do is sit around and complain about the Democrats. The Democratic leaders are the only one's doing anything worth a damn if you ask me. All these effing commentators and BS artists just love the attention for blowing smoke out their arses.

Googling stuff is also an frustrating exercise, but I did see a funny bunch of RW rag claims and notice in the past hours there tune is changing fast. They are all over the place with this scandal and some are questioning the invasion of privacy. People don't understand, all that talk about if you're not into anything illegal you have nothing to worry about is BS. A lot of people are nervous about that level of government invasion into their private lives. Who is to say that innocent people can't suddenly find wrapped up in a case of circumstantial evidence. Look at what happened with that no-fly list.

Also, I notice the freepers are cunningly trying to infiltrate GD-P, with fake small talk, like they really want to just understand and converse. It takes all of one or two post before the freeper's head explodes and he/she blurt out some irrational comment about the left and Democrats.

Anyway, I'm rambling. Point is the Democrats are the only ones doing a damn thing to expose Bush and show the country and the world what a lying, arrogant moron he is. Everyone else is attacking the Democrats.

Eff them!

3. Man, is this place ever HOME!
I got this and I was furious about that very sentence. I almost came over here and posted about it, wondering if people here would want to do a mass e-mailing to that organization to tell them just WHY we will not be joining their effort until they grow up and learn not to diss the very BEST of their own party.

But then I thought I probably shouldn't. So I'm very glad you did, GV!

I suppose Tay's right and it's better not to waste time on them, to ignore their stupidity, but....!!!!!!

7. I got it.
Here's my email to them:

You just sent me an email that contained the following comment:

Senator Kerry said there are grounds for impeachment; then he flip-flopped -- but it wouldn't be Kerry without that.

Well, I know John Kerry, and clearly you don't, but in any case, I don't want to hear from any organization that flippantly trashes liberal democrats and what's more, doesn't know what the hell it's talking about.

Take me off your mailing list.

9. I received this e-mail too.
I tried to keep a level head but the more I thought about it, the more pissed I got.

The remark was just plain stupid to put in a piece like this. Save it for the primaries forchrisesakes.

He's my response:

Is it really necessary to attack the Democratic nominee for President in '04? Is it really productive? Do you think you're building unity among democrats with such nonsense? I'm proud to have worked for and voted for John Kerry and would be proud to do so again. If you must persist, you should remove me from your e-mail list.

If you had any real guts you'd issue an apology for the insulting remark.

I let them know that I will "unrecommend" them to my friends and associates if they don't retract and apologize.

15. GV, where did you find what you found?
Edited on Sat Dec-24-05 09:49 AM by Island Blue
The part about "... then he flip-flopped -- but it wouldn't be Kerry without that."

I searched for what you had quoted (in the Impeachment Breakthrough link) and this was what I found:

"And Congress Members and Senators are talking about impeachment. Rep. John Lewis says he favors it. Rep. John Conyers has introduced a bill to create an investigation into grounds for it, and seven other Congress Members have immediately signed on. Senator Barbara Boxer announced that she is asking legal scholars for advice on it. Senator Kerry said there are grounds for impeachment."

(As you'll notice, same paragraph minus the flip-flop comment.) I only looked at this this morning, not last night when you originally posted. Maybe they got a lot of complaints and changed what they had originally written (which was totally uncalled for). I'm not familiar with this site, but William Rivers Pitt (among many other respected folks) is involved so the flip-flop comment seems very strange to me and way out of left field.

18. Really, they need to stick to
grassroots support and stop trying to tear down Kerry. How the f*** does a group that advocates support for progressive ideals justify slamming Kerry at every turn? I guess building grassroots support to them means alienating Kerry's extremely large base. They will get no effing support from me. Eff them.

Why Democrats seem to love to eat their own is beyond me - it's the most frustrating thing about the Democratic Party IMO. An honest difference of opinion is one thing - slamming someone by using right wing talking points is quite another.

Thanks for sending this to me GV.

On edit: I sent them an e-mail and added my voice of disgust.

25. Who knows, it may be better to see what he does in the future
One thing he likely saw was that at least a reasonable number of people called him on the email, suggesting that the comment was unfair, and that Kerry is not completely without fans. It was a snarky comment and repeated an unfair RW slur - but it's milder than lots of the DU hate. I would guess it was added without much thought because he thought it was clever.

I take it as positive that he responded - either because he thought he should or was told to. (Both would be positive developments in terms of giving Kerry some respect.)

Of course, you're right - hopefully it will at least discourage democrats.com from printing RW lies about John Kerry. I'll hold my tongue but keep his name in mind and keep an eye on him. It's very hard for me to forgive gratuitous slurs against Kerry.

28. I'm with you on that.
But it does seem that there is at least a slow tide turning. Which should be faster. (Kerry has acted with such dignity and grace this last year, fighting even when things have looked black. It's good that they got those end of session victories. It was also so great to hear the stories from all of you - that kind of say that he and Teresa are both ok after last year.)

Mr Swanson,

While I appreciate the apology and the effort to do so, it really should be done in the forum in which the slur occurred - in an e-mail broadcast to your mailing list. It would only be fair and equitable. It's also the right thing to do.

Sincerely,

ohtransplant
